P&I Clubs take a stand on the passive security market.

Following the UK P&I Club’s recognition of the JLMD system since 2004 (http://www.ukpandi.com/ukpandi/infopool.nsf/HTML/LP_Init_Industry_LP_Products), the Norwegian P&I “SKULD” put forth in its magazine number 189 of April 2007 (http://www.skuld.com/templates/Page.aspx?id=1284) the development of the passive security market, of which the JLMD Ecologic Group is a player.
The recognition of such systems by P&I Clubs does not stop here since the Swedish Club recently informed its newsletter readers (No. 1, May 2007) about the interest of anti-leaking system and Fast Oil Recovery System, which enables to forecast and correct consequences of an incident at sea in terms of pollution.
Because such technologies can cut the time needed for oil recovery operations on a ship in distress in half, P&Is wish to inform their members of the relevancy of these new solutions offered in order to mitigate the impacts of an incident at sea.
Saint-Nazaire Marine: new website online.

Saint-Nazaire Marine, a construction, repair, and dry-dock shipyard who is also a JLMD partner, has released its new website on www.saint-nazaire-marine.com.
Saint-Nazaire Marine personnel perform steelwork, mechanics, piping and machining on all types of merchant ships up to 300 m. Its network of specialists makes SNM the one-stop-shop on the French Atlantic coast for surveying and dry-docking.
SNM is also involved in construction, and provides welded structures for shipbuilding, oil & gas, and industry.
Visit www.saint-nazaire-marine.com for more information about the facilities.
Efficiency of the JLMD System in figures.

The JLMD System efficiency is regularly studied by our technical team in order to better forecast and optimize the fuel recovery in case of incident at sea.
With the use of HFO 6 hydrocarbon (viscosity 615cSt at 50°C), different factors will have to be considered concerning the time devoted to oil; in particular, fuel temperature, length and width of FOR (Fast Oil Recovery) piping, and rescue action swiftness.
As an example, a ship equipped with the JLMD System and DN200 pipes, requires less than 4 hours to empty 100 m3 of fuel oil cooled at 15°C and at 200 m depth.
In the same context, at a depth of 50 m, the oil recovery will take only an hour and a half, which is 2.5 times less than for a wreck at 200 m.
Fuel recovery time can be shortened even more by injecting hot water into recovery flexible hoses in order to reduce head losses and increase the flow rate in the pipe.
With this technique, at 200 m depth, 100 m3 of HFO 6 will be recovered in less than half an hour – all other factors being equal.
Time saved on the recovery process, in case of such incidents as a breach in a bunker tank, limits operating losses that can sometimes be high due to the need for the halt of the ship for a certain time. As a consequence, continuous cooperation with salvage companies in order to optimize our processes guarantees to our clients a quick and reliable solution to this crisis.
